Funding
Work began on the ground for Phase 1 of the Project in October 2006 when, with a grant of £214,379 from East Midlands Tourism, the installation of two new viewpoints commenced. The £344,000 undertaking is due to complete in 2007/8.
Phase 2 is now starting, in which further works on the ground will be carried out, notably the creation of access paths to relevant additional viewpoints, and the detailed and extensive planning for Phase 3 will be done. The Phase 2 task is to move to a position to be able to seek substantial funds for a Visitor Centre and a Museum and Study Centre. This Centre will have the Civil War at its heart, but will cover the full range of 17th Century warfare in Europe, including Swedish, Dutch, French and Irish experience.
Funding targets for the next three years are: 2007/8, £94,000. 2008/9, £501,350. 2009/10 - £752,850. Of this total of £1,348,200 the sum of £500,000 is earmarked for the building fund, £95,250 for Phase 1 and Phase 2 works and installations and £120,000 to acquire leases on land, that is a total of £715,250 of capital expenditure.
Phase 3 will see the construction and commissioning of the Visitor and Study Centres, at an estimated cost of £8,000,000
